China Schools PTO recently hosted a Read-A-Thon, and the top two readers of China Middle School earned a fun reward — they were able to pie Mr. Moody and Mrs. Studholme during the Quarter 3 Student Recognition Assembly! At China Middle School in Mr. Donar’s elective class, Hunting Content Creators, students had the unique opportunity to meet local hunting YouTubers Justin Cook and Jamison Grady from NorthEast Traditions. Both are licensed Maine Guides who document their hunting adventures on video to preserve memories and promote youth involvement in Maine’s hunting culture. During the visit, students were fascinated by the stories, videos, and displays of deer, moose, and bear hunts. Mr. Donar’s classroom quickly filled with curious learners eager to engage with the guests! #WeAreRSU18 #ChinaClippers
Eighth-grade ELA students in Miss Winkin’s class at China Middle School explored the concept of Author’s Purpose using the acronym P.I.E.—Persuade, Inform, and Entertain. Students were challenged to design posters that clearly defined each purpose and provided relevant examples. Afterward, each class voted for the most effective and creative posters, and the winning entries are featured here. For Quarter 3, sixth-grade ELA students in Mrs. Lefferts’ and Mrs. Hamel’s classes at China Middle School created dodecahedrons to showcase their understanding of independently chosen novels. Each side of the 12-sided project featured different story elements, such as setting, plot, theme, and character development. The true magic occurred when students assembled their final pieces—an effort that required patience, creativity, and collaboration. Many students jumped in to help their peers, demonstrating excellent teamwork and classroom community. Sixth-grade ELA students have worked hard all year to deepen their literary analysis skills and move beyond surface-level thinking. Well done, sixth graders! #WeAreRSU18 #ChinaClippers
