Homework Passes
Ms. Lanteigne’s seventh and eighth grade social studies classes at China Middle School have been learning about microentrepreneurs in their economics unit, and in particular – small businessmen and women from third world countries who struggle to get loans from large banks. With cooperation from the entire CMS staff, students sold homework passes at lunch to raise money for KIVA, a nonprofit organization which makes small loans to these microentrepreneurs. The students raised $200! They were able to donate $50 each to three women and one man from Nicaragua, Vietnam, Samoa, and Uganda respectively to help grow their businesses and improve their lives for themselves and their families. Ms. Lanteigne is so proud of her students for wanting to put their knowledge into action to help others. #WeAreRSU18 #ChinaClippers
